The Explanation of VersesThe second group of verses on intercession

It contains those verses that totally deny intercession like the first and second ones. The first verse speaks about the conditions of those in Hell and their dialogue with those in Paradise and then adds: “So the intercession of intercessors shall be of no help to them.”

Those this verse totally denies all manner of intercession for this group of sinners ( which includes intercession from the prophets, Imams, angels, truthful ones, martyrs and the righteous ones) but the mention of these intercessors means that there will be some who will be permitted to intercede and some others will benefit from them. Their intercession will of course not be for those who always denied the Day of Judgment had neglected the daily prayers totally and they never helped or fed the needy. The term “So the intercession of intercessors shall be of no help to them.” tells us their disbelief has resulted in their present predicament of extreme helplessness. Though this verse denies intercession it is also a proof of the possibility of it being done.

The second verse too denies intercessions. It is said:

“Guard yourselves against the Day when no soul makes up for any thing another soul lacks and no intercession or ransom shall be accepted and they shall never be helped.”

Though on the basis of the previous verse this one seems to address the Jews but it has a general connotation also and closes all the doors of salvation on the sinners. It has pointed to four paths that become the way to salvation for many of them.

The first is that some one takes the responsibility of the penalty of someone else. Secondly, some one respected intercedes for him; thirdly that the penalties may be waived and fourthly some people help him and free him from the punishments. But none of these has any meaning on the Day of Judgment.

We are discussing the complete negation of intercession but is it limited to the Jews who had taken the path of animosity and denial of the truth? On this basis this verse is not against the hadiths that the Messenger and other infallible ones will intercede for the sinners.

Does this verse refer to the ideology of the Jews who believed that their forefathers would intercede on their behalf? This verse denies this and depresses them or does it say that no intercession will be permitted for anyone?

If we study the verses in this context and the unanimity of the scholars about the hadiths about it then we find that this verse speaks about those disbelievers and sinners who are now deprived of intercession because of their great sins. The generality of this verse is established by the other verses and dispel all kinds of doubts about it.

We will deal this issue in details a little later.
