The deeds will be handed overUnraveling of deeds in Islamic hadith

In the last and 12th verse another des c r i p tion has been given which in short says that on the Day of Judgment your recompense are your deeds. This des c r i p tion has come in many verses of the Qura’n e.g. the Book says, “Your recompense are the deeds that you have done”

The same des c r i p tion is there in verses 16 of Surah Tur and 7 of Tahrim. In verse 54 of Surah Yasin god says:

“You shall be repaid the recompense for your past deeds.”

In verse 90 of Surah Naml the Book says:

“Will you receive a reward other than that which you have earned by your deeds?”

Verse 52 of Surah Yunus says:

“Would you receive other than what you have done?’

There are many other des c r i p tions with a little difference. The verses tell us that the reward for man is his deed and all his deeds will return to him and they will either torture him or give him joy. This is a clear proof of the unraveling of the deeds and is also a proof of the justice of God.

Here too some people have taken the word “ba’ as separate and said the verse should mean “Or recompense is because of the deeds that you have done” (1) But considering anything separate here will be against the nature of the verse and there is no proof for doing it. Nothing should be understood as separated from the above verses. What prevents the deeds to be present by themselves and most of their recompense will be because of them.

Allama Tabatabai has explained verse 4 of Surah Tahrim in al Mizan as:

“The punishment that you suffer is because of your evil deeds and their truth has been unraveled today.”(2)

From the above verses we discern that if no excuses are made and no sentence is separated and the explanation is given for the literal words then we know that in the stage of God’s justice or The Day of Judgment our deeds will confront us. The evil deeds will be hideous in appearance while the good deeds will be beautiful and heart filling and they will accompany the doer.
