The Qura’nic verses speak about an eternal punishment for the Usurer. Verse 275 of Surah Baqarah says:

“Those who after receiving the admonition from God desist shall be pardoned for their past and their case is for God; but those who repeat the offence will be residents of the fire and will live in it forever.”

The question again arises how this group will remain in Hell forever when only the greater sin deserves this punishment?

The answer is easier because the verse speaks about those who deny the ban on usury and who say, “What is the difference between a sale and usury? How has God declared something that is lawful to be unlawful?” But the difference between them was very clear since purchase and sale relate to trade which is beneficial for the society because they are the right steps in economy but usury brings nothing but losses for the society. We have discussed this issue in detail in the proper place.
