The upheaval of the rivers and seasThe darkening of the sun, moon and the stars

Near the end of this world and the Day of Reckoning the world will witness unprecedented and sudden great earthquakes which will shake the entire land mass and bury a great number of populations in minutes. “O people! Fear God and become pious. Verily the earthquake on the Day of judgment is terrible great.”

It then adds in verses 1 and 2 of Surah Hajj: “ The day you see it ( you will be in such a despair that ) mothers will forget to nurse their infants and the women will abort; you will see men wandering like in a drunken state, yet they will not be drunk so severe will be the torment by God”

Of course, as will be discussed in the third chapter about “The signs of the Hour” there will an earthquake before the people are resurrected. There is a possibility that this verse may be attached to it and this can be proven by the term “a terrible torment”. But then we will have to take the nursing infants and the pregnant women in the real sense because the torment will be so terrifying that this will happen. This interpretation is not compatible with the words of the verse.

The same meaning is there in verse 14 of Surah Muzzammil that says: “The day the mountains will tremble.”(1)

The same meaning is also there in verse 4 of Surah Waqiah that says “When the earth will tremble and the mountains will shattered to bits.”

1. The word Tarjuf is derived from the word “Rajaf” and denotes despair and trembling. Since the rumors spread despair and shake the people they are also termed “Arajeef.
