Paradise indeed is the abode of the pure people and this is why the Qura’n speaks about the rewards for such people. Verses 75 and 76 of Surah Ta-Ha speak about the court magicians of the Pharaoh who believed in the miracle performed by the Apostle Moses and which over powered their magic. They reply to the threats by the Pharaoh and his cohorts were:

“The High ranks (in the hereafter) are for whoever comes to Him as a believer and has done righteous and good deeds. These are the gardens under which the rivers flow. Such is the reward for those who purify themselves.”

The origin of “Tazakka” is “Tazkia” which means to cleanse or to purify and includes the purification of belief, speech and deeds. Paradise is a place that is pure in every sense so it is clear that those who are unclean will not enter it.

Some commentators have opined that the high ranks of Paradise are for those who believe, have good deeds and purify their souls. So the lesser ranks are for those who do believe but at times they do good deeds and at times bad (they too will not enter the same rank until they are purified)

It is also necessary to note that it is also said that these verses may not be the words of the Pharaohs’ court magicians but the words of God directly. The results of both are the same.
