These verses attribute intercession only to God. After describing Him as the creator of the heavens and the earth the verse says:

“There is for you no intercessor or help besides Him.”

God without doubt is the interceder for all the universe for it is He who manages their affairs and intercession is a part of it.

So we should not attach ourselves with idols but take refuge with none but His pure existence. If any prophet or saint has the scope to intercede then it has been delegated by Him just as He has bestowed authority and wisdom on them.

This meaning is enhanced in the fourth verse in another sense. It addresses those who had taken the idols for their interceders:

“To God belongs all intercession.”

It justifies this statement by further stating: “He is the ruler of the heavens and the earth and you shall be brought back to him only.”

It is now clear that He has the authority to forgive the sinners for He is the creator of all that exists for He had originated them and they will all return to him in the end. He can intercede and only He can allow and accept intercessions.

So he alone is the authority for intercession and there is none equal to Him because all others take permission from Him to intercede. Though all the authority rests on him it does not mean that other may not intercede with his permission just as He is the authority that rules the universe but permits humans to rule in a limited area and with limited authority.

The strange thing is that when He negates the intercession from the idols He says in verse 43 of Surah Zumar:

‘Tell them that they seek intercession from those who do not own anything and do not have any wisdom”
