Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 03)
Verses 41-44VERSES NO. 45 - 47

In these verses the argument still goes around the obstinate rejection of the polytheists, and prophet is instructed to proceed to a negative contend with them by saying:ِ

``Do your own business and I will do mine. Let your religion be yours and mine be mine.''

When a man of God is accused of falsehood and lie, he does not easily give up, and continues to teach and preach the Message of his Lord God. He may say to his opposing group:ِ

``Every soul is in pledge of his own deeds, and all of us have to answer in front of God, what we have done. Therefore you do your work, and I will do mine, and both of us shall wait for our tree of acts to bear fruit.''

The next two verses imply that for the guidance of a man who goes astray, correcting instructions, exciting signs, and rich reasons, are not always enough! Willing and aptitude are also needed for man to render the preaching and teaching useful and effective. Man has the likeness of a farm land to some extent in order to be fruitful. The land must have the necessary fitness and natural ability in order to grow a seed of fruit or flower. From such stand points, the hypocrites and faithless people may go to a great teacher, but of no use! They will get no profit out of their visit because they are not seeking the truth. they just go there to see who is who, and what is what; and how to make a show of such visits they pay.

Therefore the prophet is asked here to consider, if he can make a deaf to hear, or a blind to see, when they do not have the will to understand or the intention and inclination to be guided. Such are the people who want to go wrong themselves, and God is not to be blamed, if a man who has eyes to see and ears to hear, but he does not use these faculties, and he deliberately falls into a well in his way. He who wants to go wrong and insists upon the wrong way, then let him go to encounter with an inevitable and rueful deadlock, when it is too late for him to return.

As to the phrases:ِ ``THEY LISTEN TO YOU'' and, ``THEY SEE YOU'' it may mean; they hear your wonderful words of wisdom and knowledge, and they see your miraculous deeds, and yet inspite of all that, they do not understand you, and deny the truth that they see and hear! In other word; seeing and hearing are not enough for earning knowledge.

One should use his brain and faculty of thought to understand a matter.
