According to some tradition the, `great day of Hajj', is the 10th day of ZELHAJJEH,in which the festival of sacrifice is held. Here in the said verse the qualification of, `GREATER' is attributed to the pilgrimage day, for being the last year in which both parties - the Monotheists, as well as the polytheists, performed the rites of HAJJ simultaneously. Hazrat Imam Ali (AS) by his notice in that day, frankly proclaimed four strict orders that was to be observed. These articles were as follows: 1- All treaty obligations with the idolaters were dissolved and were no more valid. 2- No idolater had the right of taking part in the pilgrimage any more. 3- No one was allowed to circumambulate the shrine of Kaabeh nudely, which was a custom of the Pagan Era. 4- Polytheists for being spiritually unclean, were not allowed to enter the house of Allah thereafter.
