NO REFUGE EXCEPT WITH GOD (VERSE NO. 14)

Arab idolaters and polytheists believed that Allah is indeed the creator of the universe, but they also held their idols as mediums between man and God, and a refuge when hazards and calamities of nature, like storms, extra ordinary rain, flood, plagues and etc, could smite them. In such disasters they called and begged their idols to help and relieve them. Of course these superstitious asylums of protection; and security, always proved to be non- sense and useless; and yet they continued with their faith!

Quran calls man, not to adhere to superstitions, and false gods and opinions, because in existence there is no refuge except with God - The only Lord and protector and our guardian who has made the heavens and the earth. He who feeds all his living creatures and is not fed. He to whom we owe the satisfaction of all our needs but who is independent of any sort of want or need.

The Arabic word, `Fط'TIR' translated here to, `MAKER' literally means,`SPLITTER', because all the heavenly bodies and planets have originally been one huge gaseous accumulation, heaped up together, which God splitted and divided it, and made the divisions of heavenly bodies revolving round each other, and spinning around themselves. Thus a Creator differs from a maker.

Therefore our Creator Who is the Maker of the heavens and the earth, and Who provides us with sustenance without being sustained Himself, is the one, and the only one power whose protection we should seek.
