Here is a general instruction given to the prophet, not to turn away from him, any believer though be he a sinner. He is ordered to salute them when they come to him with the formal Islamic salutation, as a sign of welcome and greetings. To say to themSALطM, means; peace be upon you, but there are higher shades of meaning in the word. Salam which has a special connection with the word; `Islam', is also one of the names that are attributed to Allah by the Holy Quran. Some commentators believe that this verse, in spite of being a general Islamic law, may refer to the poor and humble companions of the prophet who were mentioned in the preceding verse. They were not sent away, to please the wealthy; but on contrary they were honoured by the salutation and welcomed. The reasons for such a respectable acceptance is given in the same verse that: ``Allah has written Mercy upon Himself which means our Lord has made it incumbent upon Himself to be Merciful to all His creatures.''
