Oppression which is treating with unjust rigor, or with cruelty, is one of the most heinous of sins. The measure of oppression depends on the value and dignity of the oppressed; and when the object of oppression is Allah, it becomes the most heinous and the greatest of sins. To forge a lie against Allah may mean to ascribe a partner to him, or claiming falsely to be God's Messenger or apostle; or through a lie or an innovation imputing a commandment to Him, which has not commanded, and so on: ``And who is more oppressor than he who forges a lie against Allah, or belies His signs.'' The first part of the verse implies the unbeliever's denial of Monotheism, and the second phrase, is about their rejection of prophet hood of Mohammad, by belying God's signs. They are unjust indeed, and no oppressor will eventually prosper. THE GRATEST OF OPPRESSORS (VERSE NO. 21)
