The Hadiths and the Presence of Paradise and HellWhere is Paradise?

The deniers of the existence of Paradise and Hell may have two objections.

The first is that it is useless to create them before the Judgment Day because it is certain that no one will enter them before that day. It is like constructing a house for people who will come to live in it after a thousand years. Will it not be a futile exercise?

The answer to this objection is very clear. As we have said this issue has very intellectual and educative affects. God wants to tell us that neither the great reward will be due nor will be great punishment, both are ready and prepared. It is like declaring that at the end of the year the student who secures the highest marks will be rewarded. It may be purchased earlier and kept in display for the students to see in the school’s office. In the same way the hangman’s noose may be constructed and earlier and displayed as a deterrent for those who contemplate murder.

This is not a futile exercise but a very affective one but the rewards and punishments are not visible to us because of the screens between them and us. The words of the Prophets and the truthful ones declaring this is enough. The second objections is that every thing will perish at the advent of the Judgment Day. Qura’n also confirms this by saying, “Every thing will perish save His face.”

Various answers can be given for this objection.

Firstly, the term “Kullu Shayyin” refers to the entire universe and everything related to this finite world.

The word “Wajah” (The divine entity of God) includes the entire universe and all that is related to this material world but Paradise and Hell which are the part of that eternal world cannot be described through the words destruction or death and decay, because they are beyond the purview of the finite world.

The word “Hilaak” means the non-existence of beings like humans who benefit from life. If the entire population of a location dies and it remains without any heir then only will the word “Hilaak” be used.
