The ancient Egyptians believed in many gods each with a status more elevated than others and they had built temples for them in every part of Egypt. They had more than 200o gods but nine were very popular and they were the gods of the sun, wind, atmosphere, earth, desert, mountains, oceans, and the infertile and fertile land. (1)
Will Durant has written in his History of Civilizations: No where in the world were there as many gods as in Egypt. They believed that the creation began in the heavens and the river Nile was the greatest god of creations.
