The Nurturing of KnowledgeTHE SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE APOSTLES

Umpteen proofs have been given for the necessity of the sending of apostles and they have been accepted in all finality by the learned men but we still find that the religion of Abraham (The Brahma religion) decries the need for prophets or messengers (1) and present a very frivolous idea about it which of course reflects its ideology which the human mind does not accept. Shahristani has discussed this issue in his book “Almalal walnahal”. He says:

“ If God sends apostles then they will not be bereft of either of the two qualities, he will either be perfect or non-perfect and if he is the first then the soundness of mind is enough for us but if we take him to be imperfect then it will be beyond human reasoning and will join the polytheistic forces. Humans do not worship anything but which their minds guide them. These intellectual arguments also tell us to find a perfect learned man we have to have perfect creator who has unlimited knowledge and authority. These things are a blessings or grace for His subjects and we must be thankful about it. We find them in the verses and signs about creation and understand them through our intelligence. We are very thankful when we find them in abundance and once we have been grateful then we merit rewards. We merit punishments when we reject His signs. So why should we obey and follow men like us?

The biggest problem in the issue of an apostle’s ministry is that he should be similar to us in appearance, and intelligence. He eats and drinks when he wants to and then even merits a higher status. Why? What is the proof that he is truthful and how does his teachings have preference over others? Why are things that he brings preferred to those messages that are given by others? Does he tell us the truth about the unseen?

Human intelligence believes that we need a great wise creator to create intelligent or learned person and we do not worship that which the mind rejects are frivolous. The jurists recognize this frivolity through their intelligence. There is the example of the Ahram, the running between Safa and Marwa and the pelting of the stones on those so-called devils; what is the practical use of all this? Why are some things declared impermissible and others as permissible when they are harmful?(2)

The Answer

These objections can be answered very easily:

It is known that our knowledge, experience and analysis are not more than a mere dropping in an unlimited ocean.

Those who say that the commissioning of the apostles is either compatible with our intellect or against it think that they are able to grasp everything but it not so. There is a third premise also is that there are things that we have no knowledge about and so it is not possible to accept or deny them. It can be proven that the apostles represent God and give us the glad tidings because of His unlimited knowledge. So we have no choice but to accept them.

The first doubt of the Brahma’s is because that he has not paid attention to the fact that the disciples gain knowledge from the experience of the teacher. Whatever he teaches may be compatible to their intellect or may not be. It is not relevant to the first condition but in the second condition it is not necessary to accept the words or the teachings of the master.

Actually this premise is very childish and the answer is not hidden to any thinker. Indeed the teacher teaches the things that which the mind is unable to reject or accept and the student falls prey to doubts. He is unable to decide that he may have or may not have understood the things that are absolutely correct.

But we accept things from the apostles without doubts and thus we are dependent on them, for everything, whether we know it or not.

It is correct that we recognize God through our intelligence and this demands that we should be thankful for His bounties. But this is not enough. the path to well being and fulfillment is full of perils and it needs some people as guides who have the divine help of God that can save us from these perils.

So in this way we cannot follow other humans like but will obey and follow those that have vast knowledge connected to the revelation of the unlimited divine one. Following such persons is but logical.

This has covered the third doubt and objection because following the apostles is imperative for us for they have no equals.

Sometimes we do not use our minds and intellect especially when we submit ourselves to the doctors for the treatment of our limbs and this is because we believe in their capability. Is this foolish?

It is certainly not so. We have just an  inkling about this capability and knowledge in every way related to his profession and we accept his treatment without any conditions, and it is no secret that the apostles have full command over their knowledge and piety,

Which of the commands and deeds of the apostles is illogical, the rites of Hajj, the running between Safa and Marwa, the stoning of the devils or the Ahram?

We think deeply on philosophy of their possibilities then their secrets will be unraveled before us and we will know how mankind is guide to piety through them.

When we wear the Ahram we leave behind all the material trappings of this world even the social barriers to become one unit of believers. We discard all that entice the hearts and immerse ourselves totally in the remembrance of God in a purely spiritual sense.

The three stones represent the Satan. We curse our wrongful deeds and ideas when we stone them 7 times.

We remember the pure and pious Lady Hajira who strove to save her son Ismail when she ran between Safa and Marwa and this is why we also traverse that path.

In short, all the deeds that we do then in a program for education for they give us enlightenment of God and improve our moral stature and this we realize after we have performed the Hajj.

Indeed, the apostles have declared certain foods impermissible because man was unaware of their harmful effects i.e. wine an alcohol or the pig’s meat but today we know about them. We do not know the causes and the harmfulness of many things that the apostles of God have banned whether they are spiritual or material.

These four objections about the apostles were raised by the Brahmas because of their ignorance. They are not aware of their teachings and they are not enlightened also. We will deal this issue in all finality when we discuss philosophy.

1.Tthe Brahma religion is one of the oldest religions of the world that evolved in the east with India as its center. Shahristani has said in his book that this name has been derived from the word “Braham” who was the founder. ( Farid Wajdi) has said in his book “ Daiaratul Maarif” that this name has been derived out of God’s name, who is the greatest of all gods but the followers of this religion deny this because they believe in the triad of three gods.
