ExplanationThe conclusion

The 11th verse tells us that another primary goal of the ministry of an apostle is that he should invitee to the people to a pure life which is absolutely necessary.

The verse says:

“O you who believe! Respond to God and His Messenger and He calls you that which gives life.”

This des c r i p tion is valid for the invitation given by the Messenger of Islam ( and included in the message of all apostles) for it confirms that the aim of their ministry is the life which contains all factors of goodness, material, spiritual, economic, political, moral and collective.

Verse 17 of Surah Hadid speaks about vegetable life too when it says:

“Know that God enlivens the earth after its death; indeed We have made signs clear to you so that you may understand.” The book also speaks about the animal life as in verse 39 of Surah Fussilat that says:

“And among His signs (in this) that you see the barren earth but when We send down water (rain) it is stirred to life and growth. Verily He who gives it life is able to give life to the dead. Indeed He is able to do all things”

But this verse speaks about human life. Verse 122 of Surah Anam says:

“Is he who was dead, when We raised him to life and made for him a life whereby he walks among the people, similar to the one who walks in utter darkness and can not come out it? Thus have been made fair seeming for the disbelievers what they did.”

This is why we see that some people have interpreted this verse as Jihad and it is limited to the basic deed in a person’s life. Some have taken it as the faith in God, or knowledge and enlightenment, or the life in the hereafter but these are all limitations. Some have taken it symbolically to mean this life though its meaning is vast and includes all the above.

We should also note that the life in this verse according to the hadiths (1) taken by some to mean the succession of Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib. Actually this is also a similarity or part of it because his succession is also a cause for the invitation to Islam. His wilayah or succession invites all to knowledge, sincerity, piety, and sacrifice as well as morality.
