Criticism and ResearchA short but composite answer

How will the scourges, calamities, hurricanes, sadness and pain, failures and defeats be compatible with the justice of God? This needs to be explained and we have done so hereunder.

All these events have individual philosophy or philosophies which can be discerned with a little bit of thought. We will then realize that they are all part of God’s justice and not something against it.

There are various issues in our lives whose realities are not immediately evident because most people do not study and research or reflect about them and so they are disturbed by them so much so that they become hesitant and shaky even about the justice of God.

We learn from different sources that these doubts prevailed in the minds of the philosophers from the early times and they were entangled in it. Some have written poetry about it and have expressed their doubts and denial in verse openly.

The Unpleasant events can be divided in a few groups.

The difference in human capacities:

Some people are very wise with great mental strength and capacity, some are just average in talent and some are less than them. There are differences in physique. Some people seem very handsome or beautiful, some very ordinary and there are differences in them about wealth too.

Deficiencies:

Some people are born healthy, yet others have defects at birth and these defects are a pain to them throughout their lives.

Failures and defeats:

The human lives contain hardships, failures and defeats. How does God permit people to be subjected to these things making even honey taste bitter in their mouths?

Unpleasant events and pain:

Human life is subject to unpleasant events and hardships which destroy the lives of some people. Desolation, bloodshed, earthquakes, hurricanes, famine and drought are things we hear about. The question we hear on their occurrence is that “Aren’t these things under God’s control? Water, air earth and fire are subservient to him. The tides of the rivers are not created by them but takes place according to command. Are all things compatible with God’s justice?

We admit that when the believer faces such questions he is deeply disturbed and some cannot bear the situation so they slip into the abyss of disbelief and denials.

He can be termed as a passenger who is traveling on a train and is disturbed when the train enters a tunnel. He then regains his confidence and a little way ahead there is that little light and it increases. The train passes out of the tunnel under the open skies and the atmosphere is bright and free but the important thing for him is not to remain in the tunnel but come out of it and keep going.

There are two very good answers to these painful questions. Some have preferred the first and some have liked the second then there are those who prefer both. It is important at this point to take the help of the verses of the Qura’n keeping in mind a detailed and explanatory answer.
