INTRODUCTIONGOD EXISTS BECAUSE OF HIMSELF AND WE EXIST BECAUSE OF GOD.

THE ORIGIN OF “Haiy” is “Hayat’. According to Maqayis-ol-loghat it has two meanings; the first is life as opposed to death and the second is honor as opposed to shamelessness and lewdness though the linguists declare the origin of both to be the same. They Haya and “Istahya” demands a life and well being and opposed to it lewdness and shamelessness which destroy the well being nib life with their own hands.

The meaning of Hayat is vast and includes the life of the trees and vegetations as in verse 12 of Surah Rom that says, “ Who gives life to earth after it is dead” while verse 260 of Surah Baqarah says, “ My Lord show me how you give life to the dead.”

It speaks about us humans as verse 66 of Surah Hajj that says, “It is He who gave you life.” Or about complete life and death as in verse 19 of Surah Rom that says, “It is He who brings out the living from the dead.”

It may also mean the spiritual life as in verse 24 of Surah Anfal that says, “Respond to God and His Messenger when he calls you to that which will give you life”

It is often used for the life after death as in verse 24 of Surah Ankabut that says, “Verily the home of the hereafter.”

The more elevated use has been made for God as in the verses under discussion, we will see that the true life, the eternal, the ever living, and the established where in there is no inkling about death is the life of God.

Qayyum is a hyperbole and its origin is “Qiyam” which means to stand or to have an unwavering determination. The second meaning reverts to the first because when man makes a determined desire he stands up to fulfill it. It is used to denote a firm resolution.

Some have taken the word Qayyum to mean one who stands, a memorizer, a manager, and a thinker who gives the existence of the beings in their hands. When this term is used for God then it means all the affairs of the creatures, their sustenance, life, age and death in His hands and He will arrange their affairs and gives their needs and those who are dependent in their hands.

Some have taken the word Qayyum to means the entity that exists because of himself and is the creator and establisher of all creatures but this (meaning about God) is no different from the first. (2)
