EXPLANATION OF THE VERSES BEING EVER LIVING AND ETERNAL IN ISLAMIC TRADITIONS.

As we have said earlier there is not single person among the monotheists who disbelieves God to be ever living and eternal. Because if He is not ever living then He will be contingent and if He is contingent then He is subject to causes because nothing can exist without cause.

When we accept God to be ever living then we have automatically accepted Him to be eternal because the ever living existence is unlimited and so He must be eternal. When we will look at the reality of the existence of God then it will be easy to understand these two attributes because among the proof of God’s existence is His being the necessary being and the necessary being is never separated from existence or in clear words, His existence is inherent in His being and not acquired so that it can be confiscated. So He has always existed and will always exist. Some times these two attributes are connected with the term “ever lasting” because according to the linguist the existence of “sarmad” is one that has no beginning and no end.

Some narrow minded people have said, “We may think about a being that at times is necessary and at times contingent.” This is wrong and baseless and this shows that they have not understood the meaning of the necessary being because it has been said that the existence of the necessary being is inherent so how can his existence leave him? In the same way the Asharis believe that life and eternity is acquired. It seems that they too have not thought about the meaning of the necessary being.
