THE PREC’ISIntroduction

When we say God has authority and create this then it will mean the subject is contingent and we desire that its existence be couched by the power of God. But if some one is personally weak and stationary then to ask whether he has power or not is meaningless. This is what we mean when we say that the question itself is wrong. E.g. if someone says,” I have ten fruits and I want that they be distributed among forty people but each one should get one

Then the answer will be that this premise and desire is impracticable.

In other words the question is faulty and not worth mentioning because when we say there are twenty fruits it means they are not forty but when we say that they should be distributed among forty so that each one will get one then it will mean that they are forty. The result is that despite being twenty they will be considered as forty. Now sane person will talk in this fashion.

The entire above question are of the same type and with the same defects. Since the question itself is not valid there is no need to answer it.

When they say “is it possible for God to create someone like himself? Creation will mean the created will be a contingent being but like God so it must be a necessary being. So now the question will be, “can God create something which in itself is a necessary being and not a necessary being?’ It may be a contingent being and not a contingent being. This kind of question itself is wrong.

When it is said, “Can God put this universe into an eggshell on the condition that the universe should not be shrunk and the eggshell not enlarged? This will mean that the universe at any given time should be very big and also very small. Since the question itself is wrong there is no need to answer it.

The surprising thing is that according to some traditions this is what was asked from Amirul Mumineen. Some one had asked, “Does your God have the power to put the entire universe in an eggshell but the universe should not be small and the egg should not be large?”

Hazrat Ali (A.S.) replied, “God can never be helpless but your question is impossible and wrong.” (1)

In another Imam Reza said that Imam Ali replied, “Yes God can do this and can fill it in something even smaller. Do you not see that He has put the world into your eyes when the eyes are smaller then the egg?’(2)

This answer was given to make him desist from asking such questions because the questioner had no intelligence and therefore needed no answer. So the Imam (Reza) said, “The real answer is that which Imam Ali had given.”
