Introduction:God is aware of all things:

The word “I’lm” means to realize the reality about anything. This realization is of two kinds; the realization of the thing itself and the realization of its attributes. The first is about the action about the thing concerned or “A’limtohu” I know and have realized the reality about him. The second is about the activeness like in verse 10 of Surah Mumtahena that says, “If you ascertain that they are believers”

The knowledge may be of yet another two kinds. first is that which is related to thoughts and beliefs and the second is that which is related to action like worship or the knowledge of other collective work.

In a further sense the division of knowledge is intellectual or the knowledge that is gained through proof and logic and the knowledge which derived from a revelation.

Maqayis-ol-Loghata considers this derivation as the base of knowledge through anything may be recognized or identified. So the core of instruction or teaching is this derivation of knowledge and the flag is that which is revealed through t he pen.

The word “A’llam” is pronounced with the same stress as in Jabbar and Allama means the person who has great knowledge and philosophies on it (1) Alam also means a high mountain and “Aylam” has been used to denote a river or a lake. This is the précis of what the scholars have said about the word “I’lm”.
